Triste ha sido la noticia para el mundo de la música sobre el fallecimiento del músico inglés, Kelly Groucutt. El bajista del grupo de rock sinfónico y música disco Electric Light Orchestra, tanto en la formación original y la posterior conocida como “ELO2”, falleció el pasado 19 de febrero a la edad de 62 años a consecuencia de un ataque al corazón. Su nombre real fue Michael William Groucutt y nació en Coseley, Inglaterra, un 8 de septiembre de 1945. Se dedicó a la música desde muy temprana edad y se hizo muy conocido cuando ingresó como bajista de la “Electric Light Orchestra”.

Groucutt formó parte de la banda desde 1974 y hasta 1983. Participó en los discos “Face The Music” editado en 1975, “A New World Record” de 1976, “Out Of The Blue” (disco doble) de 1977, del exitoso “Discovery” editado en 1979, “Xanadu” de 1980 y con el que comienza la caída del grupo a partir del soundtrack para la película estelarizada por Olivia Newton John, un disco que para muchos representó una aventura comercial desastrosa, a tal grado, que muchos de los fans excluyen dicho LP de la discografía de ELO, y “Time” (No. 1 en las listas inglesas de ventas) de 1981.
